Hey y’all, Hannah here! I just want to apologize for not posting as often. I’ve been very busy since school let out a month ago so I though I would tell y’all what I’ve been up to. Since I am free for summer, I have gotten a lot more hours at work so that’s been taking up a majority of my time. I also had college orientation a week ago and it was okay, but not what I expected. Tomorrow I am actually going to a One Direction concert! For the rest of the summer I’ll be finishing up school paperwork and dorm room shopping and also fitting in a family vacation and a mission trip to New Oreleans!

Ruche-Ruche has the some of the cutest dresses I have ever seen! They range from $25-$60, making them a bargain for shoppers. The site also allows shoppers to check out using PayPal, rather than a credit card. It also features comfy sweaters and sheer tops.

DressUp Boutique-DressUp Boutique has a large variety of dresses. It’s similar to Ruche that it is also affordable. DressUp also offers free shipping on orders of $75 or more. The only downside to the website is that they don’t reorder, so if a dress you want is out of stock then you’re out of luck.

Hello beautiful followers!

I’ve been on a health kick lately ladies. I have discovered the ultimate replacement for potato chips! … KALE CHIPS (I know, I know, they sound terrible) However, I promise if you cook them correctly you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you dry the kale completely before topping with oil and salt. My leaves were a little too watered down so I had to cook them longer. Also, I found they taste better the next day.

I am terribly sorry I have been mia during exam time and the first few weeks of summer. However, every monday it just seemed to slip my mind to write a post. I even had planned my topic last week and I still forgot.

On a happier note I joined a gym today and I am so very excited about it. Summer is here! This means all the carolina girls out there need to be working on those fit bodies :)

I wanted to share my favorite new guilt free snack! It’s also so easy to make!

1 package of vanilla instant fat free pudding (I like the jell-o brand) (follow the directions on the package and add 2 cups of skim milk)
Then, add a few chocolate chips after the pudding has settled. It is so easy and soooo yummy. I’m so obsessed with this snack right now! :)

Beauty Haul!

Sorry to our, if any, male readers. I can’t guarantee this post is going to be incredibly fascinating. Yesterday, I had the HUGE pleasure of going to visit a Sephora. Now, if y’all have one close by you, you probably do this as a regular thing. BUT I DON’T. I suffer from Sephora withdrawals. The only eyeliner I use is from Sephora, and now mascara, etc. So, obviously it’s a little bit of first world suffering on my end. I have none around me when I’m at college, and then one that’s two hours away when I’m visiting home. However, there’s one 45 minutes away from my family up North!

My first concern was getting my eyeliner yesterday. Sephora makes these AMAZING, tiny eyeliners that are only 5 bucks a piece (cheaper than most drug stores!) I use it everyday and it lasts at least 7 months. It’s called their Nano eyeliner, and it makes precise lines. I prefer Midnight Black. Two eyeliners and 10 dollars later, I’m set for a year and a half.

I’m a strict Bare Essentials user. I’ve tried other foundations and have gone back to Bare Essentials every time. I prefer using their primer with their foundation and concealer, and I had to pick up their oil-control primer yesterday. This is the only thing that helps me get through hot, humid Southern summers! Another popular primer by Bare Essentials is their brightening one. My mother loves it.

Lastly, I was on the hunt for new mascara. I’m not too big into volumizing mascaras, so I went for a lengthening one. I picked up the Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara that not only came in a squeeze out tube, but also came with a guitar pick and a super skinny wand. Naturally, I was very curious about this mascara. I grabbed the nearest sales associate and asked her about the tube; she said not only is it a great lengthening mascara, but it actually satisfies one of their pickiest clients. I just tried this mascara for the first time this morning and LOVED it! It has not flaked nor smudged yet in six hours. It’s actually British, and made it’s way overseas in February of this year.

Sorry this is late guys! I started summer session yesterday and had tons of orientation work to do but here we are.

I adore free music platforms like no other. Despite the occasional ad I think that they are one of the best ways to listen to your music and to find new songs and artist that you love.

Just fyi the main websites I use are pandora, grooveshark, and spotify. But today I want to tell you my favorite Pandora stations.

Body Image

Don’t get me wrong, body image is a topic brought up often. Even though this is a common topic, it wasn’t enough to distract me away from negative thoughts from my own body.

We are surrounded by a surreal idea of body image everywhere. In magazines, on TV, in movies, and even on our own world of Tumblr, where sometimes we just want to get away from these body images.

My eating and body image problems always struck when I was at home these past few months. Over Christmas break, I struggled to eat right (who doesn’t?!), but I still got a whole bunch of exercise done (lots of running; I was training for my first 10k).

However, spring break was where I hit my breaking point. My ex-boyfriend had just broken up with me, and he was a firm believer in making me feel better about my body. I went on a vacation when I couldn’t exercise. I basically was a window that had been shattered, ready to fall out. Most of my nights were spent upset and crying about my stress level due to not having the perfect stomach. I knew I had to make a change.

This is my first time talking publically about the matter; I went back to school and got my mind straightened out…aka teaching myself mentally I wasn’t going to gain 10 pounds when I had one dessert or had a glass of chocolate milk. I kept training for my 10k, and ran it in 54 minutes. I had to straighten out things mentally for myself so I could function normally again.

Granted, people very close to me have gone through much greater issues and I can’t imagine what they have had to go through. Struggling with body image is the worst: it’s all you can think about, even if you have a minor mind problem like me (some of which can be attributed to my OCD). It consumed my every thought.

This is my first week home, and so far, I’m doing pretty well. I’m surprised at how well I’m doing. I think I knew as part of my responsibility I had to straighten myself back out, and realize that it was a problem to be fixed. Not to mention, we always need a little reminder we’re beautiful. We are all beautiful, no matter what someone says, or what you think the mirror is showing you. Stay strong and don’t let others bring you down. I love you all, and thanks for letting me share my story.

I Owe Y'all An Apology! An Update On My Life & Dorm Packing Tips!

To our beautiful followers-

I am SO sorry. I promise I haven’t been trying to neglect y’all. The Thursday prior to this was part of my crazy finals week..I had an exam on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Not to forget, I also was packing up everything to move back home (for 3 weeks) this summer! I just completed my last final on Wednesday before heading to the beach to finally relax, and finish packing. I moved back this past Thursday, and I’ll be heading back to start my job May 26th.

While I’m on the topic of moving, and some of y’all are packing for school or packing to move back home, I have some tips for y’all!

1) Stay organized. The last thing you need is unsorted belongings. Keep school supplies in one box, keep things you’ll need to start your new job/or move back in another box, and keep clothes color coordinated. It’ll help in the long run, I promise!

2) Consolidate. Don’t start a new box just because your hole punch won’t fit in the school supplies box. Shift things around, and make space if you can!

3) Start early. Packing at the last minute is NO FUN. Nor is it effective… I know my Mom would’ve had a heart attack if I had been packing half of my belongings the morning of moving out. This also gives you a few moments to relax before shifting everything out of the dorm/apartment/etc and you can say goodbye to your friends!

4) CLEAN. I don’t know about y’all, but my roommate and I were going to be MEGA fined if we hadn’t cleaned our rooms properly. Not to mention, you definitely don’t want to be the person on the other end of a dirty room. Sure, everyone cleans their room when they move in…but it’s better when the dust hasn’t been tripled.

5) Listen to music. Last but not least, have some music going while packing/cleaning/organizing! It will help time pass and ease your stress.

Summer reading list!

Reflection.

In less than a month I will be graduating from high school. For me, high school was not a pleasant experience and I can’t say that I’ll miss it. I wish that I would have been more social and would have made more friends. I’m incredibly grateful for the group of people that I’ve been close with this year. I’ll miss coming home to my own bed everyday instead of a dorm room too. Sometimes I wish that things would have turned out better but in less than a month it will all be over. Maybe I should have joined more clubs. Maybe I shouldn’t have procrastinated as much. Maybe I should have gone to more football games.

There will be memories of high school I’ll be able to think about and smile but I’m hoping that there will be a light at the end of tunnel. For those of you that are freshmen and reading this, don’t wish your high school years away. You may not enjoy high school, but at least make try to make the best of it. Don’t be afraid to be outgoing.

I went to a beach music festival in Gardner, NC this past weekend and I loved it. Even though I didn’t really know how to shag, it made me want to learn. I feel like it’s something all good southern belles should know how to do. :)

Happy Wednesday guys!

I know that a lot of people are having exams this week and next week so that means a whole bunch of all nighters and so. much. studying. I loveeee listening to music while I study so I thought that I would share my most resent study playlist :)

Summer Plans!

Hey everyone!

Can you believe summer is almost here already! I personally cannot believe that tomorrow is my last day of classes, and then I am done with exams on Thursday! Where did my freshman year go?! It’s pretty sad that its all over since it was such an amazing experience, but I think we can all say we are beyond stoked for SUMMER!

Just the other day, I found a link on my school’s housing website that offered summer housing to interns. While I had found and interviewed and obtained some internships in or around Charleston, I pretty much gave up looking into them months ago since I knew it would be impossible to find a place to stay. However, after finding this link, I immediately filled it out and signed the check and brought it to ResLife and later that day, I recieved an email saying I had secured a room on campus for the summer!

I will be working at a very well known resort and club on one of the sea islands of South Carolina this summer, doing Kids Camp and working events and, in August, working the PGA Championship! This is literally a dream come true for me! I get to spend the entire summer in the best city in the world with some of my closest and dearest friends and I get to have the time of my life! I could not be more excited right now!

While I will miss HHI (where I was originally supposed to work) and NYC (my hometown!), I know this will be the ultimate experience. I get to go home for 2 weeks before I start work, I get to go home at the end of June for my brother’s graduation, and then my entire family is coming down in mid-July for 2 weeks on Sullivan’s Island! And I am sure Mommy and Daddy will be coming down for some golf and sun and fun times with their only daughter :)

So what will yall be doing this summer? Whether it be a killer internship or summer classes or just babysitting some cute kids, I wanna hear from you!

Everyone, ACE your exams and enjoy these last few weeks of school and then have a fantastic summer!

Dressing Appropriately

Hey y’all!

So, I’m here to sound like your mom for the week…haha.

A thing that’s been bothering lately is how students (particularly college students, especially in my classes) have been dressing to present their paper, PowerPoint, or project, whatever it may be.

Throughout the past couple of weeks in all of my classes, we’ve been giving presentations. Regardless of whether it was my least favorite class or my absolute best class, I would dress up. Not only will your class have an opinion of you (and you may not care), but your professor will as well. You show that you not only can make the effort on paper or on your PowerPoint, but you can make the effort by demonstrating you are respectful to yourself, your classmates, and your professor. It’s not too nice to your classmates when they show up dressed to give a professional presentation, and you look like you rolled out of bed.

Don’t get me wrong, we all have those days we just aren’t feeling class, and we want to dress down. There’s plenty of sick days or just days you’re on the struggle bus. That’s fine.

For example, one of the people presenting was wearing norts, a t-shirt, as well as a hat. That’s no way to give a presentation. If you were in a work scenario, you would be axed immediately. Think of school as work- it’s training you for whom you want to be in your career field.

Perfume!

If you know me, if you frequent my personal tumblr, or if you read a lot of my posts on tcgs you know I love two things beauty and music. So to keep along with this them we will be talking about beauty :)

I love love love perfume. Like I have a drawer in my makeup desk for just my perfumes.

So here are a list of my absolute favorites!

Daisy by Marc Jacobs - This is my most recent perfume purchase and I absolutely love it! It is just so fresh and feminine. It also has a wonderful staying power that lasts throughout the day.

Chanel No 5 – This is just a classic. I bought it originally for my mother on Mother’s day and I have to steal some from her every once and a while. It has such and elegant and sophisticated smell that you can’t help but feel fabulous when you wear it.

Chance Eau-Fraiche by Chanel – This is a more youthful Chanel fragrance in my opinion. It is a delightful sent that has a bit of unexpectedness to it and leaves you feeling very fresh.

Princess by Vera Wang – I have had a bottle of this perfume since I was a freshman in high school. Yes I love it that much. It is my go to sent when I have no idea what I want to wear. This is one of those perfumes, for me at least, that you will always have because it is just a beautiful thing to wear.

Chloe by Chloe – Chloe is such a smooth and easy to wear sent. It is such a timeless perfume that people will always ask you what you are wearing because you just smell so good.

Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana – This is possibly the easiest perfume to wear. It is such a hard scent to describe but it is very unique and it is almost guaranteed that you will love it.

Ps. I just wanted to thank all of you guys for following us on this blog. It really means a lot to me as well as the other girls and I just wanted to talk the time to thank you guys for all of your support and for following us.

Also I want you guys to keep Sue Ann (overdressedtoimpress) in your thoughts, her family is going through a rough time so like I said if you could please do keep her in your thoughts and maybe send her an uplifting message.

Media portrayals of perfection can leave to a distorted self image.

Imagine being a 13 year old girl.

Now imagine being a 13 year old girl with low self-esteem who then comes home from school, turns on the TV only to see a Victoria’s Secret commercial. These girls then think to themselves, “why don’t I look like this?” “I’m so fat compared to her.” These constant feelings can lead to depression, starvation and obsessively excising.

In today’s society media and advertisements are constantly belittling away at the self-confidence of young girls, which often leads to harmful eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

According to the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, 80% of 13-year-olds have attempted to lose weight.

Most teenage girls will look into a mirror and find every flaw in themselves because of what they see in the media. When a teenage girl reads a Seventeen or a Cosmo magazine they see women that are literally flawless. The models that are used to exemplify how “perfect” someone should be are celebrities.

In some cases the desire to be beautiful can be risky and possibly life threatening.

According to Mirasol.net five to ten percent of anorexics die within 10 years after suffering from the disease and 18-20% of anorexics will be dead after 20 years.

Complications can arise out of simple procedures such as plastic surgery. According to mayoclinic.com dissatisfaction is possible after any type of cosmetic surgery. Surgical complications are possible, too, including excessive bleeding or infection at the surgical site.

Things are not as perfect as they seem, many of these photographs teenage girls see in magazine are altered by Photoshop.

The truth is, nobody is true perfect or appears how they are portrayed in advertisements or magazines. A video produced by Dove shows the transformation of a model, made possible by makeup, spray tanning and photo altering which proves that everyone, even models, do have flaws.

My Must Have 15 Makeup Products!

Hello beautiful followers! I know what you’re already thinking…”Wow, 15 products SueAnn must really cake on the makeup.” I promise dearies, a little goes a long way. I just am in love with each and everyone of these products!

1) Clinique Air Brush Concealer $19.50: College girls: This product is a miracle worker for those late nights in the library or class after a late night out ;). I swear by this stuff. It works wonders for my under eye discoloration.

2) Redpoint Dermalift Foundation $21: It leaves the smoothest finish on my skin. I never found a foundation I really liked until I found this one.

3) Clinique Instant Perfector $18: This product will make your pores and freckles barely visible. I have the hugest pores on my nose and just a small dab of this works wonders.

4)Laura Geller Spackle with Bronzer $22.80: This is the best makeup primer I have ever tried. Do not be afraid of it’s dark color. It will blend into any type of skin tone. Trust me, I’m very fair.

5) Skindinavia Finishing Spray $19: Calling all oily skinned girls out there! This is your answer to stopping shine! Also, all my party girls and my girls in the humid states this willll help keep your make up from dripping off your face.

6) Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner $6: I swear this is the best liquid eyeliner I have tried. It goes on smooth but it stays on. It isn’t completely waterproof but it does stay on all day.

7)Burt’s Bees Chapstick $3: I’m obsessed. It speaks for itself. I can’t function without it. :)

8) Clinique Lipstick $15: Yes, it’s a bit pricer than the off brand but these lip sticks last forever. I love “Red red red” and “merlot”

9) Covergirl Natureluxe Mascara $3: For the price, I like this mascara for everyday. It doesn’t weigh down my lashes and the waterproof is waterproof but easy to take off when needed.

10) BareMinerals Lipgloss $15: The shinest lipgloss is here. My mom actually gave this to me because she bought it and didn’t like the color “Fruit Cocktail”. However, I love it.

11) Clinique Eyeshadow $15: They actually don’t even make the color I use anymore. I’ve literally had this eyeshadow for years and I haven’t even reached the bottom of it yet. I use it just about everyday too. I linked it to the shadow I found most comparable to mine. (“Toasted Almond”)

12) Urban Decay Eye Primer $20: A little goes a long way here. Seriously, i just put a little dot on my finger for both eyelids. This keeps shadow in place. I have oily skin so if it works for me it will work for you. I use “eden” but I tried all the shades on in Ulta and liked them.

13) Avon Eyeliner $2: I’m nto terribly crazy about this eyeliner but for the price it is okay for everyday use. I try not to use too much of it because it will travel. However, if you only use a little it will stay in place.

14) Lancome Eyeshadow Brush $26: This isn’t the same one I have but it’s quite similar. I love how it smoothly sweeps eyeshadow on the lid.

15) Clinque Blush $21: I’ve had this blush forever! (As you can tell) I will be making a trip to buy more soon. I love this blush because it is long lasting and it gives me color without looking fake. Also, the brush is great too! I use “Iced Lotus”
